Tools extending WordPress
Add new tools and features to WordPress installation to help with backups, debugging, tweaks, cleanup and much more.
Features as Addons
GD Press Tools Pro plugin features addon based architecture for most of its features. Some plugin features are part of the plugin core and are always active.
The Debugger Addon is a powerful tool for tracking what happens when WordPress builds a page, capturing all sorts of data that can help you find issues with the website. The debugger has a lot of panels, many of them optional, controllable through settings. And, debugger works on admin and front side.
GD Press Tools Pro features backup addon that can be used to backup database or the whole website. It works on the network level and for backup of individual website. The backup has two backup engines and it is capable to backup huge websites without issues.
Backup files can be uploaded to external services, supporting FTP by default, with free addons available for Dropbox and Amazon S3. More about backup is available here:
Tweaks and Cleanup
Two very important addons can be used to clean the WordPress installation database and apply 70+ tweaks.
This addon has various tools to clean up WordPress database tables, remove obsolete data and optimize database tables. Some tools are available on the network level and some for individual sites.
WordPress allows a lot of things to be changed, but it lacks settings for most of that. GD Press Tools Pro has Tweaks addon where you can simply enable or disable various WordPress features.
The Multisite Network Based
GD Press Tools Pro 5.0 is created with multisite support at its core. In the multisite mode, plugin main control is inside the Network admin. Some features and addons can be controlled through Network administration, and some can be set for individual blogs in the multisite.
Addons like Tweaks and Cleanup have a special set of tools for use in Network admin. There several tweaks that will be available only in Multisite WordPress installation. Same with Cleanup, some cleanup tools are Network only. Debugger, Toolbar Integration, and Events Log are Network controlled. Some features and addons can be controlled on the Network level, but super admin can allow overriding them on the blog level (SMTP Tools).
One very much unique feature in GD Press Tools Pro is feature called: Overload. In the Network mode plugin adds a second top-level menu called Overload. This mode allows you to control blog-specific features from one place for all blogs in the network.
What does this mean for the plugin setup? Take the Tweaks for instance. There are 60+ tweaks you can set, most of them are for blogs and not the whole network. So, you need to go through Tweaks panel for each blog in the network and set (usually) all the same tweaks. Well, with Overload this is no longer the case. In Overload Tweaks panel you can set some tweaks, mark them for Overload and they are applied to all blogs in the Network! And, they will not be available for use on the blog Tweaks panel.
